A Greener Future
20-Feb.-2020
Welcome back from the LLPS Environmental Committee! It’s a new year and a new decade… a decade of change.
Nude Foods day will continue to be on every Wednesday and will continue on into the future. Nude Food is snack and lunch that is not wrapped in any packaging, and will therefore cause no rubbish or litter!
It’s important to remember that it’s ok if your lunchbox isn’t perfect and it is not a competition!
It’s about giving it a go. It is also important to understand why we are aiming to reduce our waste… We can’t just rely on recycling, so it’s important that we begin with refusing, followed by reducing, repairing and reusing.
How is Nude Foods done? It starts at the supermarket, by making ethical choices when purchasing items. For example, opting to buy paper packaging over plastic. Ideas might be to use reusable containers, lunchboxes and drink bottles. You can find different sizes, for example, using a container to fit sandwiches instead of glad wrap. As we all know, plastic can be extra bad for us, the animals and our oceans and world… as plastics stick around for a very, very long time in our environment.
We all know that Lara Lake PS have done amazing work in Reading, Writing and Maths, however something we are currently working on is reducing the amount of rubbish we are sending to landfill. I know we can all play our part in helping to reduce this to a much smaller amount, starting by participating in Nude Foods every Wednesday!
A school wide approach to composting will be our next step, stay tuned…
